Questions & Answers

Here is a growing list of questions about the Green Lakes Endurance Runs and ultramarathon competition in general. Runners and their crew are encouraged to contact us with questions that have not yet been answered here.

I can't seem to find a race application that I can send in. I don't want to put credit card info on the web. Can you send me a hard copy?

No, there is no paper registration for this event.

Early registration allows registering with a personal check or money order through RunRace.net. RunRace will walk you through the registration process. Please read the Registration Schedule and Details.

RunRace explains all credit card processing is performed through a safe, secure gateway using the latest in encryption technology. RunRace reports they do NOT collect or store any credit card information. They use Authorize.net as their credit card gateway. Not only is this considered secure on-line registration, the entrant pays no additional credit card fees, and RunRace does not try to sell you anything with your credit card.

I signed up for the 100K.  If I decide to only run 50K on race day, will I be included in the 50K results even though I am not registered for that race?

No, the 50 km and the 100 km are two separate and distinct races with two different start times. Runners will only be in the results of the race that they entered. Runners are not allowed to change races or start times on race day. For more information, please see Registration, Race Rules

Is your race a good one for a first time attempt to conquer the 100km distance?

If a runner has been successful at 50 miles, and has experience training and racing in warm humid summer conditions (average high 78F), this trail course would be a reasonable next step up the race distance ladder. However, the course is deceptively challenging and there has been a relatively low finish rate. The serene lakes and the mostly sure-footed trails may lull runners into too fast of an early pace. The 14.5 hour cut-off also needs to be considered in your decision.

Does one need a crew?

A runner does not need a crew unless there is a concern about making the cut-offs since official race support will be very limited after 8:30 p.m. There are three well stocked aid stations on the 12.5 km course. Staying in the camping grounds Sunday night or a local motel would help the 100 km runner without crew. See accommodations.

I'd love to run the 50k, my first, but I'm not sure of a training schedule. Any ideas?

Training as you would for the 26.2 mile official marathon distance will help you race well at the 50k marathon distance.  Race planning and making good decisions during the race will help your race more than adopting a different training schedule.
